Q1:

ABL is a smaller firm with big firm status. In 2018 we were finalists in three prestigious professional awards. Which did we win?

A:

Arnold Bloch Leibler took home ‘Insolvency & Restructuring Deal of the Year’ at the 2018 Australasian Law Awards. Selected from a field of six finalists in this award category, the award was presented to ABL for our work with client KordaMentha as administrators of the Arrium Group. ABL’s well-coordinated, multi-disciplinary team advised in all aspects of the Arrium administration. ABL’s development of a landmark substantive asset consolidation deal broke new ground, allowing the assets to be shuffled by keeping the debt separate. The final deal was described as having saved the town of Whyalla, as well as Arrium itself.

ABL is known for advising on some of the most complex insolvency and restructuring matters in Australia and was involved in four of the other deals selected for this category (Slater & Gordon, BIS Industries, Boart Longyear and Ten Network restructures).

Q2:

Best Lawyers 2019 guide recognised the work of 33 brilliant minds from ABL. How many practice areas did these listings cover?

A:

In addition, 17 ABL lawyers are listed in more than one practice area and a total of six senior associates/special counsel are recognised in the guide.

Q3:

The ABL corporate team was recently involved in a sweet cross-border deal for a US-based company. Who was the client?

A:

ABL advised US-based Krispy Kreme Doughnut Corporation on its acquisition of the Krispy Kreme Australia and New Zealand franchise business from its founding shareholders.

Q4:

After what period of time can ABL graduates expect client contact?

A:

We realise law graduates are eager to work on real matters. Our unique graduate program won’t require you to attend lectures or sit exams. Instead, from your very first day, you will learn on the ground from our best and brightest partners and senior associates – leaders in their respective fields who will immerse you in complex matters and provide supervised training and mentoring on a daily basis. It’s not unusual to hear from our graduates that they experience client contact from day one.

A:

At Arnold Bloch Leibler we believe great minds think differently, which is why we are committed to investing in the meaningful professional development of each of our graduates.

We’re a no-nonsense firm, we touch base with our graduates regularly, and we’re focussed on helping you develop your skills quickly, both in terms of quality and breadth. We also really want you to find your best fit – because that’s where you’ll thrive. We have an optional 6 month rotation system where at the six month mark, we’ll engage with you to consider rotating to another practice group. We won’t force you to move, but we’ll give you the option, and help you to decide.
